The Institute of Science and Engineering
was founded in July 1992 with a view to contributing
to the promotion of science by conducting
joint research projects in the fields of
basic and applied science and engineering.
In 1993, the Institute started full-scale
operation, organizing joint research project
teams following research themes in the fields
of mathematics, physics, civil engineering,
precision mechanics, electrical and electronic
engineering, applied chemistry, industrial
and systems engineering, and information
and system engineering. The results of these
research activities are reported at annual
research meetings and published in the Institute's
annual reports. In addition, in 1993, the
Institute initiated to undertake research
projects with a support from institutions
outside the University. The Institute plans
to promote these projects positively, with
a view to broadening the scope of its research
activities.
